Xbox And Playstation 5 May be bigger than RTX 2080
Kotaku’s Jason Schreier went on record saying he thinks the power levels of the Xbox and Playstation 5 could be greater than the RTX 2080, the best graphics card on the market today. He believes this, because both Xbox and Playstation will probably want to make sure that their consoles are of the highest level.
Due to the easy upgradability of a PC, PC gaming has always been one of the higher-level aspects of video games, allowing greater power, resolution and framerates. This contrasts with consoles, which can not be upgraded and are often separated by years between their current generations and the next ones.
Nonetheless, if what Schreier has said is accurate and the Xbox Series X and Playstation 5 have more power than the RTX 2080, it is possible that the consoles will compete fairly with PC graphics for at least a significant period after they have been launched, irrespective of PC updates.
There have also been rumors beyond the possibility of mid-generation upgrades, so even if PCs catch up, they may now have much more competition with the different consoles. The Xbox One X was marketed as more powerful than most PCs and appeared to possess that fact, so Microsoft could continue that trend, hence the power rumors of Xbox and Playstation 5.
While questions of backward compatibility have also been raised, Schreier at least knows that Playstation 5 launch games will not also be available on Playstation 4, the better way to force Playstation fans to move forward than to wait in the hope that Playstation 5 games will be released on Playstation 4.
While we won’t really know about the power of Xbox and Playstation 5 compared to the PC until the two consoles actually release, hopefully when Xbox Series X and Playstation 5 will be released during this year’s holidays.
