We have received a solid dose of information about Skyros, a mod that should port Westeros from Game of Thrones to the Skyrim engine. The developers have made a lot of progress over the past year, although it’s still a drop in the bucket.
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim gives modders a lot of room for improvement, and the Skyros team wants to take advantage of them all. The Heavy Burns YouTube channel posted a second video showing the progress of the work.
What is Skyros?
The mod is a wildly ambitious project that aims to port the entire continent of Westeros from Game of Thrones to the Skyrim Special Edition engine. Moreover, the project is expected to offer dubbing and many new quests, which, depending on the path we choose, will lead to several different endings of the story.
Skyros after a year of work
For a year after the publication of the first video on the channel, the project disappeared from the radar. That ended yesterday when we received the second development update.
It presents the progress of 3D modeling. The modders worked not only on the interiors or architecture of Westeros castles, but also on the design of the weapons and creatures found on Skyros . Interestingly, some of the models were borrowed from the developers of the Trial of The Seven Kingdoms project for Mount & Blade II.
In addition, significant progress has been made in aspects of story or level design. We have learned that we will begin our adventures on Skyros in Winterfell, just like in Game of Thrones. The plans include different races and cultures, and the player himself will be able to choose his own path.
You can check out the progress presentation below. It really has a lot of content and you can definitely see that the developers have had and still have a lot of work to do.
While the project seems impressive, we can’t be sure the full version will ever see the light of day.
Nobody wants Skyros to have such a turn of events, but the scale of the project at some point can simply overwhelm the developers. However, at the moment we have to wait for new news.
