Developers from Embracer Group’s recently acquired studio Eidos Montreal are trying to make the next Deus Ex game, and one of their goals is to beat Cyberpunk 2077.
In May of this year, the Embracer Group acquired most of Square Enix’s Western studios and brands. Among them was Deus Ex, along with the Eidos Montreal team responsible for the last few installments. Now, some interesting messages about the future of the series have surfaced online from Jeff Grubb, who revealed them during the Giant Bomb Game Mess Mornings podcast.
- According to this information, there is a high probability that the first project of Eidos Montreal under the wing of the Embracer Group will be the new part of Deus Ex.
- The project is at an early stage of development, but the developers are said to be eager to work.
- One of the goals that the guys from Eidos Montreal have set for themselves is to “achieve what Cyberpunk 2077 failed to achieve.”
- Nothing has been finalized yet, but such words in themselves are a big deal for developers. As they admit, when Eidos Montreal remained under the ownership of Square Enix, there was no chance for a new Deus Ex.
It is worth recalling that for the past few years, Deus Ex fans have been hoping for her return. Square Enix has promised that it will not abandon the brand, but only put it on hold. Statements from developers Eidos Montreal, however, show that the Japanese publisher didn’t actually have plans for new installments, so acquiring the studio along with the brand actually saved the series – unless, of course, Grubb’s reports turn out to be false (although the chance is low, he is a reliable source ).
Having bought out Square Enix’s western teams and intellectual property, Embracer Group has listed the most important series to be developed, including Tomb Raider and Deus Ex and Legacy of Kain. Crystal Dynamics is already working on a new part of Lara Croft’s adventures, so it seems plausible that Deus Ex will be the next Eidos Montreal project.
