Settle a family dispute in the Beer Run mission by either sabotaging the batch or snitching on one member in Starfield.
In the midst of Starfield’s “Beer Run” mission, you’ll find yourself entangled in a family dispute that revolves around the conflict between following one’s passion and addressing the pressing issue of world hunger.
Sarah is keen on investing in the development of her product, while her husband is driven by his passion for brewing, causing tension within the family. You’ll be faced with the choice of either maintaining the status quo or intervening to support one side, with each decision leading to distinct consequences that will influence your rewards. Let’s delve into the strategies for optimizing your gains in the “Beer Run” mission within Starfield.
How to unlock the Beer Run mission
No prior conditions are required for this task. Simply make your way to Akila City in the Cheyenne star system and engage in conversation with the guard stationed at the main entrance. He will bring up a dispute involving Sarah Filburn, suggesting it may be worthwhile to investigate.
Following this interaction, your Mission HUD will be automatically updated with the “Beer Run” mission, conveniently filed under the MISC tab.
How to complete Beer Run in Starfield
To successfully complete the “Beer Run” side mission, your first task is to locate Sarah Filburn, as advised by the Akila City gate guard.
Starting from the gate of Akila City, head to the right of the central building and ascend the stairs. Take the initial right turn and enter the residence of Weston Filburn, situated down the stairs on your right. Inside, you’ll encounter Sarah Filburn.
During your conversation, Sarah reveals that her husband and his brother have diverted their attention away from their company, now prioritizing the art of brewing beer. She firmly believes that Filburn Agricultural Systems possesses the potential to expand their business across the galaxies.
With the backing of some research and development behind their IntelliWheat product, Sarah is convinced that it has the capability to eradicate hunger in the Settled Systems.
To mediate the deadlock within the Filburn family, she requests your assistance in tampering with the beer batches and awaiting their transportation to Stoneroot Inn, a process expected to take approximately a day or two.
Sabotage the last batch of Henry’s Beer
Descend the staircase from the Filburn house, turn right, and then ascend the stairs once more. As you continue on your right, you’ll encounter the Fermenter tanks situated just before the game court.
Next to these tanks, you’ll find the Filburn Agricultural Brewing Computer mounted on the wall. It’s crucial to crouch while using it to avoid detection.
In the “Beer Run” mission of Starfield, you’ll be presented with three methods to sabotage Henry’s Beer. Both increasing the temperature and raising the International Bitterness Units (IBU) will sabotage the beer batch, resulting in the same rewards.
However, if you opt to enhance the alcohol content (the third option), you’ll actually improve the quality of Henry’s Beer. Regrettably, selecting this option will yield no rewards for the “Beer Run” mission in Starfield.
Should you sabotage Henry’s Beer or not?
Alternatively, you have the option to refrain from sabotaging Henry’s final batch of beer during the “Beer Run” mission in Starfield. This constitutes the fourth choice, wherein you can decide to inform Henry about Sarah’s scheme.
To do so, exit Filburn’s house, turn right, proceed straight from the stairs, and you’ll find Henry’s house as the first door on your left.
Upon sharing this information with Henry, he will express his gratitude and offer a reward in lieu of Sarah’s intended reward. It’s important to note that after making this choice, you won’t have the opportunity to return to Sarah for further dialogue or interaction.
If you simply want more money or don’t agree with Sarah’s plan, we suggest telling Henry. We also strongly advise not going with the alcohol content option, simply because you will not gain anything from either party.
Check on the reactions to Henry’s Beer
Once you’ve made your selection at the computer terminal, return to your ship and rest for a period of 24 hours to observe the repercussions of your decision.
From the entrance gate of Akila City, veer to the left of the central building, descend the stairs, and you’ll come upon Stoneroot Inn on your right. To gain insight into the aftermath of your choice, discreetly listen in on the conversation between Kate Foley and Eloise Reed.
If you opt to elevate the beer’s temperature by 20°C, Kate notes its unfavorable taste, resulting in a decline in patronage for Henry’s previous offerings.
Alternatively, choosing to boost the International Bitterness Units (IBU) to 160 will lead to the beer being removed from the menu, effectively aligning with Sarah’s intentions.
On the other hand, increasing the alcohol content will surge the demand for Henry’s beer, further enhancing the profitability of the brothers’ business.
Report back to Sarah
After you are done with the reactions, you will get a chance to report back to Sarah if you choose to increase the temperature or IBU content. She will be pleased with the news and hand you the reward while hoping to never see you again.
Starfield – Beer Run mission bugs and fixes
A bug has been identified within the “Beer Run” mission in Starfield, where Kate Folly fails to initiate the conversation during the “See Reaction to Henry Filburn’s Latest Beer” step. The exact cause of this bug remains unknown, but players have fortunately discovered a workaround.
To address this issue, you must inflict damage upon Kate without arousing suspicion or prompting nearby NPCs to retaliate. You can achieve this by either ascending to the first floor and using a silenced weapon to harm Kate or employing a melee attack, but be sure to swiftly holster your weapon afterward.
Be prepared for several attempts, so it’s advisable to save your game beforehand. Eventually, Kate will resume her conversation with Eloise as expected.
Starfield – Beer Run mission rewards
The rewards for the mission will exhibit slight variations contingent upon your favoritism during the decision-making process. In the case of the “Beer Run” side mission in Starfield, your recompense will be either 50 XP and 2,500 Credits from Sarah or 2,900 Credits from Henry.
