The journey of “A Light in the Darkness” commences in a rather typical manner in Starfield when you opt to conduct interviews for an SSNN reporter.
Demonstrate your reporting prowess, and SSNN will extend an enticing proposal: compensation for each fresh scoop you provide. If you have successfully undertaken specific missions during your playthrough, SSNN will be open to hearing your perspective on the story and compensating you accordingly. This presents an appealing opportunity to earn credits.
How to unlock the “Light in the Darkness” mission
You can initiate and commence “A Light in the Darkness” by engaging in a conversation with Tommy Bitlow, located in the city of New Atlantis within Starfield. He can be found at the docks of the Spaceport.
This side mission doesn’t have any prerequisites. Simply meander through the Spaceport, and Tommy will intercept you for a brief chat.
Tommy is currently interning at SSNN and is interested in obtaining valuable scoops from you in exchange for credits. If you’re intrigued by this proposition, you should approach Nadia Muffaz inside the SSNN Building, situated to the north of the Spaceport.
It’s important to note that you can also commence “A Light in the Darkness” by directly initiating a conversation with Nadia. Tommy merely represents a random activity that can trigger this side mission.
How to complete A Light in the Darkness in Starfield
Upon entering the SSNN Building, you will encounter Nadia stationed behind the front desk. Engage in conversation with her, and she will regale you with tales of her experiences covering top stories as a reporter for the space media company.
To fulfill the objectives of the “A Light in the Darkness” mission, Nadia will task you with conducting interviews with individuals residing in The Well, the most impoverished district of New Atlantis within Starfield. This will initiate the “Primary Sources” mission.
Conduct interviews in The Well
Proceed to the rail station beneath the MAST Building and descend using the elevator to reach The Well. To successfully conclude the mission, you must conduct interviews with three individuals: Theresa, Henrik, and Talia O’Shea.
Theresa is employed at a diner called Kay’s House, conveniently located to your right as you disembark from the elevator. Initiate your interview with her, ensuring you cover all relevant questions. One of these queries will unlock the “Suspicious Activity” side mission.
Next, visit Apex Electronics, also situated to the right, a few shops down from Kay’s House. Here, you can interview Henrik.
Finally, seek out nurse Talia O’Shea at Medbay. Return to Kay’s House, and on the left side, you’ll discover a small tunnel. Traverse it, and you’ll arrive at Medbay, positioned on your left. Speaking with O’Shea will unlock another side mission titled “Reliable Care.”
You needn’t concern yourself with memorizing the information gathered during these interviews, as your character will automatically relay all details to Nadia.
For those pursuing a 100% completion playthrough of Starfield, it’s essential to utilize the “A Light in the Darkness” mission to unlock both side missions. Failing to do so may necessitate a return trip later on.
Find more news stories for Nadia
After successfully conducting all three interviews, return to Nadia and provide her with the gathered information. She will express her gratitude and enlist your assistance with additional stores, initiating a chain of objectives linked to other missions in Starfield.
As you progress through your playthrough and complete specific missions or events, you’ll have the opportunity to return to Nadia and share the latest news stories with her. The following stories can be shared, and they can be presented in any order:
The Vectera mining attack
This event takes place at the start of the game and is not connected to the Back to Vectera mission. You can tell Nadia about how the Crimson Fleet attacked your mine.
The Galbank robbery in Akila City
This event is part of The Empty Nest mission where the Galbank gets robbed. You can give Nadia the robbery scoop after completing the mission.
The Scow and Captain Petrov
This event is part of No Sudden Moves where you need to get an artifact from Captain Petrov abord the Scow. Once you have the artifact, you will then need to attack his ship. Sounds like a daring news scoop for Nadia.
The SysDef attack on The Key
This event is part of Kryx’s Legacy which is a series of different missions. You will have to make a choice of either siding with SysDef or the Crimson Fleet. Whatever decision you make, you can tell your story to Nadia after completing the mission.
The Terrormorph attack on New Atlantis
This is part of the UC Vanguard questline where New Atlantis gets attacked by the Terrormorphs. You are sent out to uncover the mystery behind the attack, which is later revealed to be a terrorist attack orchestrated by Hadrian’s father.
The death of Ron Hope
This event is part of the Freestar Collective questline where you have to choose to either kill or spare Ron Hope. If you decide to kill him, you can report his death to Nadia afterward.
Starfield – Light in the Darkness mission rewards
