Ninja Theory Nabs Environmental Artist Naughty Dog for Hellblade 2
Last month we had the opportunity to take a look at Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 during The Game Awards 2019 and it left us in awe. Ninja Theory is a master of bruising when it comes to setting a great game atmosphere. Now the studio hires environment designer ex-Naughty Dog and adds another great asset to its squad.
Looking at the Hellblade 2 trailer we can see clearly why the studio has become so popular in recent years. The first game managed to become a classic on all platforms and created a milestone for triple-A titles to surpass. The bar is set even higher for its sequel, and the studio can commit to yet another masterpiece with support from Microsoft.
Ninja Theory recently recruited Andrew Watkins, a former environmental artist at Naughty Dog, in the same role, proving that expansion is happening. With nine years of expertise at its back, Watkins is placed in a position worthy of the title of the game. While some interpreted the original announcement as a hoax, Watkins ‘ Linkedin profile is officially changed to a Ninja Theory Senior Environmental Artist, making him the newest member of an ever-growing team.
The Saga of Senua: Hellblade 2 has no release date set yet. It will however be released as an exclusive console on Xbox Series X. Microsoft has confirmed, on a bright note, that the game will also be released on PC. The teaser, entirely portrayed in in-engine video, showed an even darker side of its universe. If you were a fan of the first title, just by those first minutes this one will set the bar higher.
The original game was an enormous commercial success and sold over one million copies across PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. The arrival on Nintendo Switch took Senua to the household of nearly every player, making it a stable for every series. Will its sequel manage to do the same in the midst of the impending console war’s cruel competition?
