September 2019 is the month for smartwatches. Fitbit on Wednesday announced its new Fitbit Versa 2 smartwatch to be launched, which will arrive in all stores on Sept. 15. Samsung smartwatch will be launching just two days earlier on Sept. 13 and a new Apple Watch is likely around the same dates. $200 Fitbit Versa 2 smart watch has new features to compete. The next generation of Fitbit’s most successful smartwatch has many features like Amazon Alexa, faster processor , AMOLED screen much longer battery life.

The Fitbit Versa 2 smart watch has latest upgrades over the original Versa. It has a more processing capacity, which means apps and data load much faster. It offers up to five days of battery life, which is much longer than the two or so days you can expect from an Apple Watch. Versa 2 can track sleep, with a new “sleep score” that averages the data it gains while you sleep and tells you how well you take sleep. Apple hopefully introduce new Apple Watches in early September, when it’s also expected to introduce its latest iPhones. The Fitbit Versa 2 has a new AMOLED screen with an always-on feature. The Apple Watch also has a colorful OLED panel but doesn’t have an always-on display. so you need to lift wrist to wake it for time check.

The Fitbit Versa 2 smartwatch also compatible with the Amazon Alexa voice assistant, so one can talk to start workouts, check schedule, control smart home or can respond to text messages on an Android phone. (The text message feature will not be supported on iPhone.) However Apple Watch has Siri, which can be used for similar functions.

Other features worth mentioning are that these smartwatch are water resistance up to 50 meters, support for using the Versa 2 for making payments, 10+ exercise modes, female health tracker, on-device workouts and heart-rate tracking. It doesn’t have its own GPS but can use your phone’s GPS for location information.

Fitbit Versa 2 smartwatch supports Fitbit Premium

The Fitbit smartwatch will support Fitbit Premium which is a new subscription service launching this fall that will cost $9.99 per month only or $79.99 per year that will provide much information about health trends. Later in the year, Fitbit also to launch a health coaching pilot that lets you chat with trained health professionals for some additional fee.

The new subscriptions may help Fitbit generate new revenue stream. Shares of Fitbit cratered as much as 21% on July 31 when it reported its second quarter earnings and lowered its fall revenue by $95 million to $1.455 billion. So Recurring subscriptions could help in this regard, especially since customers probably don’t buy every new model Fitbit releases.
