Off chance you haven’t been aware of all the subtleties of Cyberpunk 2077 lately, you might wonder about whether the cutting edge RPG will have multiplayer and what that aspect of the game would look like. Perhaps the short response is, Cyberpunk 2077 will have a multiplayer chapter. Nevertheless, the engineers view multiplayer mode as their own undertaking which will discharge independently of the main game. How additionally multiplayer mode would look like is not yet clear.

The official CD Projekt Red Twitter account back in September 2019 confirmed that multiplayer was “in progress” in a tweet hoping to recruit game planners. After the release of Cyberpunk 2077 and its DLC content, the tweet went on to say the arrangement is to “welcome you for some multiplayer action.”

Since then, Cyberpunk 2077 has been postponed, but so far it’s fair to say that this is still the plan and players shouldn’t expect multiplayer to start. In reality, we probably won’t see the multiplayer part of Cyberpunk 2077 until more than a year after release of the game. CD Projekt Red publishing lead Michał Nowakowski confirmed during a recent conference call with investors that they are treating the multiplayer part of the game as its own triple-A release.

“In terms of multiplayer, one thing we need to make clear is that Cyberpunk Multiplayer is the AAA update we’re working on in conjunction with CP2077,” Nowakowski says. “So, considering the upcoming release of Cyberpunk 2077 in September and the sequence of events that we expect to occur after that date, 2021 seems unlikely as the release date for Cyberpunk Multiplayer.”

Later in the same conference call, CD Project Co-Chef Red Adam Kiciński repeated the multiplayer release window when addressing a different question. “Cyberpunk Multiplayer’s release date possibly will pass beyond 2021,” Kiciński said. Because of this, 2022 is the earliest time we can hope to get our hands on multiplayer of the game.

So, though Cyberpunk 2077 will have multiplayer mode, don’t expect to play it anytime soon. At this level, what multiplayer mode would look like in the game is still unknown. Cyberpunk 2077 is expected to be published on 17 September 2020. Be sure to check back here for more information and updates as we get closer to launch.
