Understanding adopting kids in Starfield

The adoption system in Starfield currently appears to be somewhat ambiguous. At present, all we have are hints suggesting the possibility of adopting children in the game. It’s important to bear in mind that there is no confirmed assurance that we will have the option to adopt kids independently of engaging in romantic relationships with our partners. These expectations and speculations are solely based on early concept art released for the game.

You can be a kid yourself

In Starfield, there’s an intriguing option to experience life as a child, open to being adopted by parents. To initiate this unique journey, you can select the “Kid Stuff” Trait from the list of optional traits. Once you’ve made this choice, you can pay a visit to your newly found parents shortly after encountering the Constellation and successfully completing the “One Small Step” quest.

Following the completion of this quest, you’ll want to make your way to Pioneer Tower, located within the Residential District of New Atlantis. Inside the tower, you’ll discover an elevator that leads to your family apartment, where your eagerly awaiting parents will be excited to meet their beloved (adopted) child.

It’s worth noting, however, that apart from this particular scenario, the current state of Starfield doesn’t provide the option to adopt children. There remains a possibility that Bethesda may release a separate DLC in the future, akin to their approach with Skyrim, which could introduce additional family-oriented features.
