Around 80,000 new users play PUBG every day

The free-to-play model has benefited PUBG: Battlegrounds. The game is gaining an average of 80,000 new players per day.

In January of this year, PUBG: Battlegrounds, one of the most popular online shooters, switched to the F2P model. Krafton, which owns the brand, boasted data showing that the transition to the free version of the game was quite successful.

  • Since moving to a free-to-play model with microtransactions, PUBG has averaged 80,000 players per day. Of course, it should be borne in mind that not all of them stay with the game for a long time, but still quite successfully.
  • Income from the game has increased.
  • The amounts spent on average by each user increased by 20%.
  • All of these figures are included in Krafton ‘s new financial report .
  • In the first half of this year, the company’s revenue was $729.5 million (up 3%) and profit was $338.4 million (33% more than last year). It was not specified how much of these amounts were earned by PUBG.

This success was achieved despite the many voices of dissatisfaction from players who previously played the paid version. On Steam, of all the ratings given to the game, only 56% are positive. The reception of the free version is gradually improving, however, considering only the feedback from users in the last 30 days, 65% of them praise PUBG.

Finally, it’s worth mentioning that the report mentions two major upcoming Krafton projects. The first is an RPG based on Korean fantasy novels Project Windless, and the second is a new game from Unknown Worlds, the studio best known for Subnautica, which will be announced this year at gamescom.
